Vat Aham features a single nave, two porches without lateral galleries. It is covered by a double-layered roof decorated with naga-headed roof-horns. It is a fine example of 19th century religious construction in Luang Prabang.

INTERESTING STORIES

 

Oral traditions tell that Vat Aham was built near the site chosen by Fa Ngum, founder of the Kingdom of Lane Xang. The site was selected for the erection of an altar dedicated to the town’s deities, Pou Gneu Gna Gneu.
